Clovis of France

FranceFlag_svg.png

Once upon a time, there was a small area called Gaul. At the time Gaul didn’t have its name because no one lived there, until a tribe called the Franks came and clamed Gaul for their own. Many years later, in 486 AD, someone named Clovis overthrew the previous Roman ruler and claimed the Franks as his tribe. At the time Clovis was not a christen, but he did become one when he prayed for victory in a very difficult battle and winning. Historians know that Clovis joined the Catholic Church because the Arian church was dominant in the region. The Arian church was also promoting the heresy of Arianism. Many years later Clovis took over the kingdom of burgundy in 538 AD. That was the last major event in Clovis’ reign over Gaul, but before it ended, he renamed the region, France. We still recognize the Franks because that is what the currency there is called! Touché!
