Amerigo Vespucci
Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian navigator and sailor and he was known for naming the new world, America. He looked up to Christopher Columbus and decided that he would like to explore the new world further! When Vespucci came back, he found out that other explorers believed that the new world was part of Asia, but he thought the new world was an entirely new continent. Obviously, he was right. Once the people discovered that the new world was not part of Asia, they named the new world America, after Amerigo Vespucci, and divided it into three continents: North, South, and Central America!
