Oliver Cromwell

Oliver Cromwell was a political and military leader in England during the reign of King Charles I and the English civil war. He was born into the class of nobility, but he lived his childhood as a poor family. Cromwell’s dream was to become a political leader aka the Parliament. Since he was born into nobility, Cromwell used his name and family ties to get in. He officially became a member of the Parliament in 1628, and while he didn’t have much training or polished skills, he was ambitious and became a man of promise. Then King Charles I announced he was going to remove the Parliament position because he thought kings should have complete rule, not an equal rule with another council! Cromwell was furious, and he decided to build up an army. The unusual thing about Cromwell’s army was that he got together people who really wanted to fight. Cromwell didn’t care how rich or poor they were or their social status was. Peasants were accepted alongside knights, and sometimes, the peasants were in charge of the knights! Cromwell’s army won the war and political justice regained! After that, Cromwell decided to spread his message in all the other countries that Charles I reigned. He did this in a violent way and was remembered negatively for that. When he came back, Cromwell was considered a hero and he was dubbed, Lord Protector of England! When Cromwell died, his son Richard succeeded him. And nobody remembered Cromwell’s first name (Hint: its Oliver).
